Ab Stormossen Oy

Stormossen uses Jubilo Waste paper bags and waste bins. Since the bags started being distributed to residents, the recycling of bio-waste has increased by more than 35%.

Leif Åkers, Managing Director of Ab Stormossen Oy, and Nina Lindman, Communications Manager, think our paper bags are the right solution.

Leif Åkers and Nina Lindman stress that the right communication to municipal residents and businesses is really important. This is the only way to create the best possible conditions for increasing the collection of bio-waste.

Why did Stormossen choose paper bags over bioplastic bags?

Leif Åkers, Managing Director of Stormossen, sees that in addition to better usability, paper bags also have a better reputation among consumers and a more environmentally friendly image.

In the context of bio-waste collection awareness-raising, paper bags have been easier to explain to users from an educational point of view, as paper is seen as an environmentally friendly material that works well with bio-waste.

In the context of bio-waste collection awareness-raising, paper bags have been easier to explain to users from an educational point of view, as paper is seen as an environmentally friendly material that works well with bio-waste. The focus on awareness-raising and the fact that all households have received paper bags and an airy bag holder has given the paper bag a good reputation. In addition, Jubilo Waste's bags are very durable and work well in our biogas plant.

The popularity is also driven by effective communication and ease of use

Stormossen invests in communication. The environmental issue of bio-waste has been a growing priority in the Vaasa region since 2012.

The information campaigns focused on informing municipal residents about the environment and the fuels of the future. The aim was to raise awareness of how biowaste can be used to produce biogas, and how the environment and the economy go hand in hand.

At Stormossen, information work has continued to this day, including information events and promotional leaflets.

Among other things, we have distributed information directly to homes, organised campaigns, communicated in the media, distributed bags to housing associations, distributed bags in supermarkets and carried out radio and social media advertising.

In addition to communication, work has also been done to make the collection of food and bio-waste as easy and simple as possible for the end user.

We are convinced that starting to collect bio-waste must be made straightforward. That's why we wanted to distribute bags directly to homes. Last year, we distributed more than 2 million paper bio-waste bags to apartment and terraced houses. We organised a 'Bags from a pack' campaign and delivered paper bags and bag racks to housing associations for direct distribution to residents.
